Upgrade Your Smile with Dental Bonding
Dental bonding can be an effective cosmetic solution for patients with aesthetic imperfections such as chips, cracks, staining, or discoloration. The bonding procedure is performed by Dr. Donald H. Ross, Dr. David Kim or Dr. Neal Shah, who will apply a composite resin material directly to the surface of the teeth to conceal cosmetic flaws and create a beautiful smile. Your doctor will match the color of the bonding solution to your natural teeth so that it blends seamlessly. Dental bonding is an affordable way for our Atlanta, GA, patients to achieve symmetrical, dazzling smiles. The team at Feather Touch Dental Care has helped many patients achieve the smiles that they have always wanted, and we look forward to the opportunity to provide you with excellent care. If you have minor cosmetic imperfections in one or more of your teeth, and you would like to learn more about how dental bonding can help to transform your smile, please contact our office and make an appointment with one of our doctors.
The Dental Bonding Procedure
When compared to may other dental treatments, bonding is relatively simple and straightforward. In most cases, the entire procedure can be completed in one to two hours, at which point you can walk out of our office with a dramatically enhanced smile. When you come in for treatment, your doctor will begin preparing for the procedure by selecting the correct shade of bonding material that matches your teeth. Your doctor will then place clear dental strips around the teeth to ensure that the bonding material does not affect the surrounding teeth. He will then apply an etching solution that will create tiny fissures in the teeth you wish to treat. This allows the bonding material to attach more securely.
When the teeth have been sufficiently prepared, your doctor will begin to apply the bonding agent. Using only a very small amount of solution and an instrument that resembles a paintbrush, your doctor will carefully apply the solution while being careful to avoid contact with the gums or other structures of your smile. Once the solution has been applied, he will begin to gently shape the material for the greatest cosmetic effect. Dental bonding gives our doctors the ability to increase or decrease the length or width of the tooth being treated. For optimal results, your doctor may apply several layers of the bonding solution. Once the bonding material is in place and smooth, your doctor will cure the solution with a special ultraviolet (UV) dental light. This part of the procedure is very similar to the process of hardening a composite filling for a cavity. If needed, he can make adjustments to help you achieve a comfortable bite. Finally, he will polish the material so that it will feel just like your natural teeth.
